Joseph immigrated to California from the Azores and married Maria Faustina Silva on Jan. 13, 1889 at the Church of St. Patrick in San Jose. They had two daughters, Josephine and Caroline, and later divorced. In 1900 he married Maria daGloria Cunha Fernades, they had a son Joseph Enos Pedro, Jr, born in 1901, and a daughter Mary who died as a child in 1904. That marriage also ended in divorce. At the time of his death he was, according to his obituary, a "well-known street sweeper" in Santa Cruz.
