Six children survive: Henry, Thomas, and Frank Bassler of Portsmouth, John Bassler of Detroit; Mrs. Margaret Dwyer, of Cincinnati; and Mrs. Rose Suter of Portsmouth.
John Bassler was employed by the Baltimore and Ohio (B&O), railroad as a brakeman and in the Freight house. He was a member of the First Evangelical church and was one of the pioneer citizens of the Old First Ward. The last rites will be in charge of Rev. Samuel Lindenmeyer and interment will be in Greenlawn.
