Mary Elizabeth Dickson first married George W. Stokes on March 19, 1889 in Columbia County, Arkansas. They had two daughters: Minnie Stokes and Edna Stokes.

George Stokes died about 1902 and Mary then married Jacob Beasley on November 17, 1903. This marriage did not last, for in Census dated April 15, 1910, Jacob Beasley is listed as "divorced" placing Mary's date of death sometime after April of that year.

On the same census, Minnie Stokes is shown living with her uncle, Texas State Representative, David W. Dickson, Jr. and his wife Mary Melinda Smith. Her sister, Edna was adopted by Mary Dickson's half-brother, Peter J. Hayes.
