Mrs. H. E. Popple, 95, Dies in City
Native of Norway Succumbs at 95
Mrs. Herbert E. Popple, longtime Rochester and Stewartville resident, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. A. Plummer, yesterday after an illness of two months.
Born November 14, 1856 in Sigdahl, Norway, 95-year-old Mrs. Popple came to this country when she was 14 years old. The former Johanna Johnson, she was married December 10, 1879 in Eyota to Herbert E. Popple. After her marrage, she lived in High Forest township 1879 to 1892 and in Stewartville from 1892 to 1935. When her husband died in 1935, she came to Rochester and has been living with Mrs. Plummer since.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Plummer, Mrs. F. A. Lenton of Stewartville, 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. E. J. Stoyke is living in Stewartville.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Congregational church of Rochester. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. Dr. G. P. Sheridan is the minister.
Friends may call at the Towey funeral home from noon Friday to noon Saturday.
