Clarence was the last son born to George W. Liddick and Eliza Jane McCauley. Born in Oklahoma and mostly raised in Red Oak, Montgomery Co., Iowa.

He first married Annas Wilson 12 Mar 1919 Red Oak, Montgomery Co., Iowa and three kids were born to that marriage; Dora, Ruth and Clarence, Jr. His first marriage ended in divorce between 1925 and 1930. He next married Ruth Helen Walker, likely in Omaha, Nebraska and a daughter, Helen Marie was born to that marriage. That marriage ended in divorce shortly after Helen was born. He then married Lillie E. Neve and adopted her son, Charles Edward Kernes, from her previous marriage to James A. Kernes.

After Charles died in 1954, Clarence and Lillie adopted his children. They also took in Charles' step kids.
