Abel Barnes, 85, an aged and well respected citizen of Barnes Ridge, departed this life February 10th, 1897, of disease incident to old age. He was born near Freeport, Harrison County, October 23, 1814.
He moved to Duck Creek at the age of 19 and has lived in this community ever since. He was married to Miss. Casoline Brown, of Summerfield, December 24th, 1830. Of this marriage there were born 10 children, 7 boys and 3 girls, nine of whom, with the widow still survive. Nathaniel B., Adam, Peter F., George, Allen James, Abel, Margaret and Rhoda.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. C W Danford, in the Allen's Chapel church and his remains were interred in the cemetery near the church.
