RINGLING — RINGLING — Funeral services for Mrs. Norma Willene (Blankenship) Porterfield, 75, of Ringling is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2012, at the First Baptist Church of Ringling with the Rev. Mike Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Ringling Memorial Cemetery. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Funeral Home of Ringling.
Norma was born August 9, 1936, at Erin Springs, Okla., to the late Mr. George "Bud" Samuel Blankenship and Mrs. Iola (Barnes) Blankenship. She departed this life Sunday evening, January 22, 2012, at her home west of Ringling.
Norma was raised in the Simon and Oswalt area and then later at Purcell. She married the late Mr. Ray L. Porterfield June 13, 1955, at Ringling. They made their permanent residence in Ringling in 1969, where Norma worked at the Pants Factory, the bank and finally the school cafeteria. She retired from the Ringling Public Schools in 1997.
During her retirement years, she enjoyed doing family genealogy, her daily walks in the woods and feeding her birds. She also loved to attend her grandchildren's ball games. Norma was a talented artist composing several paintings and also quilted many pieces for her family to treasure for years to come. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ringling and always enjoyed attending her Sunday school class there.
Preceding her in death was her parents; husband, Ray - May 2, 2000; sisters, Mae Logan, Ida Schoonover, Lena Hill, Corene Blankenship and Sue Hardcastle; brothers, Lawrence, Ernest and Bill Blankenship; and granddaughter, Gabrielle Sorrells.
Survivors include her four daughters, Deborah Huebsch and husband, Milton of Madill, Susan Evans and husband, Paul of Newalla, Okla., Raye Farris and husband, Douglas of Ringling, and Kim Sorrells and husband, Ray of Antlers; special friend, Pete Gillum of Healdton; brother, Ira "Buck" Blankenship and wife, Betty of Oklahoma City; granddaughters, Tara, Katy, Annie, Sarah, Laura, Bonnie, Mary Jane and Rachel; grandsons, Cody and Matthew; six great-grandchildren; and numerous other nieces, nephews and other family.
Pallbearers are Milton Huebsch, Paul Evans, Douglas Farris, Ray Sorrells, Matthew Farris, Dusty Nelsen, Cody Slawson and Corey Gillum.
Honorary Bearers are Pete Gillum and Ted Tripp.
Family visitation will be from 6-8 this evening at the funeral home in Ringling.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cross Timbers Hospice, 207 C St. NW, Ardmore, OK 73401.
