Survivors include his wife, Emma B. Chapman; six sons, Arlis, Wolford, Luther, Cordell, and Carlous, all of Jamestown and Alford Chapman of Noblesville, Indiana; three daughters, Martha Kinnett and Ollie Mann of Jamestown and Sadie Bernard of Birmingham, Alabama.
There are 59 grandchildren, 94 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
The funeral was held Monday, Feb. 11, 1974 at 2:30 p.m. at the Freedom Christian Church with services conducted by Bro. H.B. Popplewell.
Interment was in the Bethel Cemetery at Jamestown.
Pallbearers were grandsons; Arondell Chapman, Leon Chapman, Jimmy Chapman, Leon Chapman, Jimmy Chapman, Ronnie Chapman, Johnny Chapman and Lindol Mann.
H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapels, Inc. were in charge of arrangements.

Avery, born in 1905.
Martha Anna, 1906-1991 married Hollie Kinnett. They had one daughter, Maxine.
Arlous, born in 1908, married Liddie Lawless.
Wolford Chapman, born in 1910, married Effie Morgan.
Sadie born in 1912 married Hiram Bernard. They had two daughters, Mildred Bernard Webb and Grace Bernard Taylor and one son Kenny Bernard.
Della 1914-1972 married Claude Grider. They had 14 children: Earlene, Johnny Neal, Richard, Judy, Ralph, Vera, Glenn, Randall, Claude Jr., Barbara, Louie, Brenda, Linda and Michael Grider.
Bonnie, born in 1916, died in 1922 of a pulmonary abscess.
Ollie born in 1918 married Haywood Mann and they had four children: Lyndell, Elmwood, Dexter, and Bonnie Mann Watts.
Alford born in 1920 married Mary Lawless. Their children: Jimmy, Junior, GEne, Nelda Joyce Chapman Ballenger, Carol Chapman Ott and Jo Nell Chapman Wooldridge.
Luther born in 1922 married Jeanetta Pearl Lawless (sister of Mary). Their children: Leon, Philip, Chester, Bradford, Zelda Chapman Marcum, Betty Chapman Collins, Kathy Chapman Coe and Ann Chapman Coe.
Cardell, born in 1924, married Elizabeth Ballenger.
Carlous, born in 1927, married Dorothy Knight.
James's father died before he was eight years old and he was sent to live with the Stant Wooldridge family. He lived there until he was 21 and then Stant gave him a horse, saddle and bed and he was on his own. He married Pearl when he was 21. In early 1900 he bought several acres of land from Frank Wolford Blankenship on what is now known as Wooldridge School House Road. James had his own blackshop and also owned a molasses mill. James was a trustee for the Russell County school system in the 1920's and 30's. (All information taken from the Russell County History Book)
