Roy Long, 70, of 419 W. 1st Ave., Milan, a former Rural and Black Hawk Township farmer, died at 9:35 this morning in St. Anthony’s Hospital, where he had been a patient since March 3.
He was born Nov. 26, 1885, in Rural Township, a son of John and Caroline Long. He attended Rural Township schools. He married Della Reeser of Rural Township on Feb. 15, 1912. The couple farmed in Black Hawk and Rural Townships from 1912 to 1929.
In 1929 he entered the employ of the former Rock Island Plow Co. and worked there until the firm ceased operation. He last worked at the Bear Manufacturing Co., Rock Island, retiring from there in January, 1955. He was a member of Milan Presbyterian Church.
Survivors are the widow; a brother, Lester Long, rural Township; a sister, Mrs. Iva Weiss, Taylor Ridge, and a number of nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters.
Services will be at 2:30 Thursday afternoon in Larson Funeral Home, Milan. The Rev. Ralph E. Lemon, pastor of Milan Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Beulah Cemetery, Rural Township. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon tomorrow.
