LaVern John "Red" Clefisch, age 88, of Garnavillo, IA, died Friday, January 20, 2012, at his home in Garnavillo.

Funeral Service: Monday 10:00 A.M. January 23, 2012 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Garnavillo, Iowa.

He was born on August 13, 1923, in Garber to Henry and Anna (Kregel) Clefisch.

LaVern received his education and graduated from the Elkport High School at the age 15 years old.

He was united in marriage with Luva Kulper on October 8, 1945 at the Elkport Lutheran Parsonage.

This union blessed them with nine children, twelve total including three children from Luva's first marriage.

For many years, Red worked for Halverson's as a mechanic. He farmed for a bit and later in life owned and operated his own shop. After all these years, there are many items in this world that were once broken, now fixed by his hands. One trade that Red was blessed with was the gift of gab. He truly enjoyed the company of people and sharing conversation with them. Those visits will be truly missed by many.

Red will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his twelve children, Gary Hansel of Garnavillo, Veronica (Fred) Jenkins of Garber, Royce (Janan) Hansel of Elkader, Leland (Deb) Clefisch of Ellsworth, IA, Vern Clefisch of Garnavillo, Sandra (Bill) Raudabaugh of Colorado Springs Colorado, Susan (Steve) Whitesell of Grinnell, Martha (Terry) McDanel of West Des Moines, Herbert Clefisch of Garwin IA, Steve Clefisch of Muscatine, Ruth (Kent) Gaudian of West Burlington and Donna (Dan) Schoulte of Farmersburg; twenty one grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
