Mrs. Barbara Hope, Collbran Pioneer,Passed away Today

Resident of Collbran Since 1889; Made Home Here Past Four Years

Mrs. Barbara Sommerville Hope, pioneer of the Collbran district died early this morning at 1114 White, where she had made her home the past several years.
Mrs. Hope was a pioneer of the Collbran district, coming there in 1819 in a covered wagon from southeastern Kansas. She made her home there until four years ago, when she came to Grand Junction.

Barbara Sommerville Bowman was born in Missouri June 21, 1853. She was married to Willliam Henry Gilliam at Summerville, Kansas. The two came west in 1889, and in 1896, Mr. Gilliam died at Collbran. In 1902, she was married to Edwin Hope, who died in 1928.

Two Children of Mrs. Hope, Edith [Gilliam]and Wesley [Gilliam], died a number of ears ago. She is survived by her four sons, Ben Gilliam of Collbran, Charles and Walter Gilliam of Norwood and Will Gilliam of this city. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Alberta Myers, and a brother, Dan Bowman of Montana.

Services will be held Sunday at Collbran. Martin's funeral home will direct.
