Edwin Hope was born 4 Aug 1847 in Fairford, Gloucestershire, England to Thomas and Mary Ann Turner Hope. When he was just a year old his parents brought Edwin and his older brother, John Hope, to America, arriving in New York on 2 July 1849. Thomas and Mary Ann settled in Wisconsin for a while, where all but the last child was born. They had heard about vast amounts of land that were open to settlement and headed for the wide open West.

Not long after arriving in Missouri in 1848, Mary Ann gave birth to what was to be their last child in Rose Hill, where she died and was buried. Having his hands full with what was left of his family, as two of his children died very young in Wisconsin, Thomas pressed on
to keep his and Mary Ann's dream of settling in the great frontier. The family finally settled in Linn County, Kansas, where Thomas started his homestead.

Edwin enlisted with the Company G 12 Kansas Volunteer Infantry at the age of 17, serving along the side of his brother, John. The family later started a new homestead in the Colorado Territory.

On 25 Dec 1865 Edwin married Lucetta Theresa Pettijohn in La Cygne, Linn, Kansas, a daughter of David and Hannah Pettijohn Pettijohn. In 1893 Lucetta died, leaving him with still a few minor children to raise, as the youngest was only four. This last child, Carl, was raised by his sister Carrie Belle Hope Monnie.

In 1901 Edwin married Barbara Summerville Bowman Gilliam, the widow of William Henry Gilliam, who still had two young sons at home. Edwin and Barbara settled in Collbran, Colorado.

On 10 Jan 1928 in Collbran, Mesa, Colorado Edwin died. He was buried in the Eagalite Cemetery in Plateau City, Colorado.
