BETHANY, LA- Funeral services will be held for John Randall Tabor, 72, at the First Baptist Church in Homer on Saturday, Jan. 21st at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Pat Bates and Rev. Chad Mills, officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Mr. Tabor was born July 3, 1939 in Homer to Charles Louie "Red" Tabor, Jr. and Grace Kilpatrick Tabor. He was a professor at LSU in Shreveport from 1968 until 2001, a weekly columnist with the Guardian Journal in Homer in 2002-2003 and is the author of the recently published book, "Homer is Where the Heart Is". He was unexpectedly diagnosed with cancer in July 2011, and fought hard for 5 months. While spending time with his family in Madison, MS, he passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012.

Mr. Tabor was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn DeSoto Tabor of Bethany, LA; his mother, Gracie Kilpatrick Tabor of Arcadia, LA; son, Jonathan Tabor and wife Kristie; daughter, Leigh-Ann Tabor, all of Madison, MS; 3 grandchildren, Andrew Bailey Tabor, Riley Erin Tabor and Anna Elizabeth Warden, all of Madison; brother, Charles Duane Tabor of Summerfield, LA; 3 step-daughters, Cheryl Moss of Shreveport, Monica Cox and husband, Matt of Tulsa, OK and Tara Pilcher and husband, Joey of Stonewall; 5 step-grandchildren, Kathleen Malloy, Justin Pilcher, Maria Pilcher, Joseph Pilcher and Karaline Pilcher.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Bob Haley, Dr. Phillip Fincher, Tom McCalman, Ricky Tabor, Dr. Jimmy Bates and Conway Link.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jack Nolan, Dr. Ernie Blakeney, Dr. Charlie Johnson, Frank Bright, Eugene "Buddy" Pixley, John David Brantley, Ron Sereg and Larry Dandridge.
