Mrs. Powell was born October 30, 1892 to Louis and Anna Graw. She came to the Blackduck area in 1902 and to Saum in 1903 - she walked from Blackduck to her parent's home. She was married to Charles Powell on November 5, 1910, in Bemidji and was the mother of eight children, four of whom preceded her in death. A pioneer woman, she was an avid reader and writer and up until a few weeks before her death, kept her knitting needles busy. She had been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Kelliher for the past three and one half years.
She is survived by three sons; Charles and Kenneth, Saum, Robert, Hutchinson; and one daughter, Signe (Mrs. Harry) Beighley, Blackduck; 14 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and three great,great grandchildren; also a sister, Vi Bement, Blackduck.
She was preceded in death by her husband August 4, 1957, two brothers, and sons Everett, Danvy, Allan and Marvin.
