HERNDON - Jean K. Walter, 83, a longtime resident of Herndon and for the past three years a resident of Grayson View, Selinsgrove, passed away at 7:45 a.m. Sunday, March 1, 2009, at Sunbury Community Hospital.
She was born April 27, 1925, in Herndon, a daughter of the late Harry W. and Ruth M. (Bogar) Herrold. She was married to Peter R. Volinskie and George W. Walter, both of whom preceded her in death.
She was a 1942 graduate of Herndon High School.
Jean was employed for 48 years at the Sunbury Textile Mills, retiring in 1990.
She was a member Seibert Evangelical Congregational Church, Herndon, and a former member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Jean enjoyed quilting, needlepoint and crocheting, as well as traveling. She took great joy and pleasure in her grandchildren.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Marian Volinskie of Freeburg; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Shirley and Glen Kratzer of Beavertown and Dianne and Ed Bahl of Hanover; three grandchildren, Dennis Volinskie of Summerville, S.C., John Volinskie of McAlisterville and Michael Volinskie of Middleburg; six stepgrandchildren, Ladawn Mattern, Darvin Kratzer and Glenda Sipe, all of Beavertown, and Alan Bahl, Colleen Rice and Jason Bahl, all of Hanover; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; 14 stepgreat-grandchildren; and six stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and seven sisters, Olive Trometter and Harriet Smith, both of Sunbury, Evelyn Trometter and Sue Schrader, both of Herndon, and Betty Snyder, Marjorie Hovenstine and Carol Zimmerman, all of Millersburg.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Richard, Oscar and Thomas Herrold.
Visitors may call from 1 to 2 p.m. today at the V.L. Seebold Funeral, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, followed by the funeral at 2 with Pastor Richard E. Sweppenhiser officiating.
Burial will be in Herndon Cemetery.
