On July 3, 1935 he married Mary L. Askew in Montesano. She died in October 2003. In 1942 after being with the Extension service for 10 years, the family moved to a dairy farm east of Montesano and until his retirement in 1974, he was a dairy farmer and had beef cattle. He was a member of Olympic View Grange for 70 years, a member of the founding board of Panhandle 4-H Camp, and a member of the Harbor Hayloft Square Dancers. He enjoyed fishing, digging clams, and gardening. He and his wife enjoyed their travel trailer traveling with their square dance friends, and picking apples in Quincy after their retirement.
He is survived by a son Joe of Aberdeen, a daughter; Lila Scott of Montesano; a sister, Anita LaBreck of San Francisco, Calif.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A brother, Richard and a sister, June Quinn, died previously. A graveside service for family is planned for Friday, April 22, 2005 at the Wynooche Cemetery in Montesano. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Grays Harbor Fire Protection District #2, 6317 Olympic Highway, Aberdeen 98520.
