Former Chamber Secretary Dies

Arthur B. Culmer, 75, 2620 Sunset Drive, died in a local hospital Saturday. A
resident here for the past 52 years he had held several important positions in
the community, including that of city engineer and water superintendent and
federal deputy in the Bureau of Internal Revenue.

Mr. Culmer was also secretary of the Bellingham Chamber of Commerce from 1935 to
1951. He was a member of the Mormon Church, and of the Albert J. Hamilton Post
No 7, American Legion.

Educated in Utah, he arrived in Bellingham with his parents in 1901, and was
associated with the city engineer's office until the United States entered the
first Wirld (sic) War in 1917.

He spent 22 months in service with the Twenty-third Army Engineers, and went in
to the Internal Revenue office here after the war.

After service with the Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Culmer held his municipal
position, serving under former mayor Arthur Howard.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Jennie Culmer; a sister, Mrs. Pearl C. Lynn,
Seattle, and two nieces, Mrs. Dorothy Pearson, Seattle, and Mrs. Constance
Olpin, Salt Lake City.

Services will be held at the Harlow-Hollingsworth Funeral Home Monday at 3 p.m.
followed by cremation.
