WALTER E. ROBERTS
Funeral services for Walter E. Roberts, 77, are to be conducted at 10 o'clock Friday morning from Magnolia Street Baptist church with the Rev. J. T. Renfro, the Rev. W. E. Hellen and the Rev. Tommy Fant officiating.
Interment will follow in Lake Park Cemetery [s/b Hickory Grove] with Thompson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Death came at 7 o'clock Wednesday night at a Laurel hospital following an illness of long duration. He had been in failing health with a heart ailment for the past two years, but had been hospitalized only since Tuesday.
A resident of Laurel since 1927, he was employed at Laurel Textiles until his retirement two years ago. His home was at 515 Beacon Street.
Widely known here he was a member and deacon of Magnolia Street Baptist church and also a member of the Baptist Brotherhood there.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. W. E. Roberts, Laurel.
Seven daughters: Mrs. Rulon Headrick, Mrs. H. E. Sheppard, Mrs. Larkin Davis, Mrs. Joseph Vinzant, Mrs. Roy Curry, all of Laurel; Mrs. O. T. Perry, Hattiesburg; and Mrs. J. S. Alessi, New Orleans.
Three sons: James Roberts, Laurel Fire Department; and Augustus Roberts and Leon Roberts, both also of this city.
Four sisters: Mrs. Beulah Dilmore, California; Mrs. Lela McWilliams, Jackson and Mrs. Plummer Dilmore and Mrs. Ford Sullivan, both of Magee.
Four brothers: Johnny Roberts, Mize; Andrew Roberts, Magee and Jimmy Roberts and Verdon Roberts both of Jackson; 21 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren.
Named as active pallbearers are Joe K. Musgrove, J. P. Culpepper, J. H. Crawford, Gordon Kelly, L. O. Saucier and Preston Woodward.
Included as honorary pallbearers are deacons of Magnolia Street Baptist church, members of the Brotherhood, Dr. G. B. Ruffin, Dr. Jack Boone and Dr. Bill Weems.
The body lies within a Thompson chapel to await the funeral hour.
