James Foxy Roberts

James (Foxy) Roberts, 75, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at Memory Chapel with burial in Hickory Grove Cemetery in Laurel. Rev. D. J. Benson and Rev. Brent Benson will officiate.

He served in the U. S. Navy from 1941 until 1945 on the USS Curtis Ship. He retired as chief of the Laurel Fire Department after 20 years of service and also was elected as Water Commissioner in 1973 and held that office until 1985. He was a member of Salem Heights Baptist Church and the Scott Flynt Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Grand Lodge of Miss F. and A. M. Lodge No. 414 for 35 years. He was a charter member of Dixie Golf Club, having been instrumental in the development of the club's facilities and course.

Survivors include his wife, Billie Roberts; son, Ron Roberts and wife Judy; three grandchildren, Chad Roberts and wife Alicia, Kellie Patterson and Greg, and Katie Van Putten; seven great-grandchildren, Zac Roberts, Gavin Roberts, Peyton Roberts, Rylee Patterson, Cooper Patterson, Parker Van Putten and Reagan Van Putten; sister, Billie Rose Perry, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Doug Boler, Charles Daly, Kent Headrick, Eddie Windham, Roy Moss and Greg Smith.Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Scott Flynt Sunday School Class.
