Henry was born in Ohio to Daniel and Sylvia Ann (Comstock) Blatchley. He was raised in Fayette Co., and studied to be a druggist at Cincinnati Medical College. He came to Caldwell early in its history, when there was only one building (1883), and stayed.

He is mentioned in both Hiram T. French's History of Idaho: A narrative account of its historical progress, its people and its principal interests, Volume 1, 1914, and in An Illustrated History of the State of Idaho : Containing a history of the state of Idaho from the earliest period of its discovery to the present time : together with glimpses of its auspicious future ... : and biographical mention of many pioneers and prominent citizens of to-day, from Lewis Publishing, 1899.
