Local Inventor Meets Success
M. E. Blatchley of this city, who has patented a burglar proof night lock for houses, has contracted with a Kansas City firm for the making and sale of the same. The Kansas City firm has contracted to make and sell 50,000 of these locks during the remainder of this year, and will sell at least 200,000 each succeeding year. Mr. Blatchley had his patent completed last October, since which time he has been getting things in shape to put them on the market. He has also patented a lock for Ford cars, and a different lock for other makes of cars. He expects to have the auto locks on the market within a short time. One of his other patents on locks is for freight car doors and he has shown his models to some of the railroad officers, who are officially high, and they have given him encouragement in the probability of the railroads accepting it for all cars.
Mr. Blatchley has experienced some difficulty in getting his locks on account of the labor situation and the shortage of raw materials.
