Dr. R.P. Bishop was married to Lula Jane Vaughn in Mineola, Texas, in 1893. Lula Jane was born in Birmingham, AL, the daughter of William and Amanda Vaughn. Lula Jane attended school in Birmingham, but later moved to Texas where she married Dr. R.P. Bishop in 1893 in Mineola, Texas. The Bishops came to Channing in 1917 and, in the following years, Mrs. Bishop often went with the doctor on house calls and helped with his patients. She occasionally took over when the doctor was busy with another patient, and delivered a number of babies alone. Dr. and Mrs. Bishop had six children, three of whom died in infancy. Grady, Stella and Hubert grew up in Hartley County.
