Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served in the Union Army as an Assistant Surgeon in the 47th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, being mustered in on January 28, 1863, and resigning his commission on July 26, 1863. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery in action on May 3, 1863 at Vicksburg, Mississippi, with his citation reading simply "Voluntarily attempted to run the enemy's batteries." He was one of a number of men who volunteered to run supplies and ammunition to elements of Major General Ulysses S. Grant's army who had been pinned down by concentrated Confederate artillery fire. Under the cover of darkness, and under fire, Assistant Surgeon Davidson and his group risked their lives to get the supplies to them. His Medal was awarded to him for this on October 17, 1892.
