On January 9, 2012, Geneva Child Kapp, beloved wife, daughter, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and cherished mother, passed away peacefully from natural causes to be with the love of her life, Bill, who preceded her to heaven in 1987 after 50 years of marriage.
Geneva was the eighth of 11 children. She was born December 4, 1917, in Riverdale, Utah, to Ivy Ballantyne Child and Harrison Barber Child. She was the last surviving sibling of these 11 children.
She grew up on a small fruit farm in Riverdale where she learned the value of hard work making cheese, butter, milking cows, feeding chickens, gathering eggs, picking fruit and vegetables, thinning peaches, pruning trees, irrigating and making her own clothes. Through it all, she learned the value of hard work and gained a love for the simple things in life.
Geneva attended Weber High School where she met and fell in love with a handsome and talented Grant Kapp(Judy), Patti Kapp Pallat, Peggy Kapp Wright (Kent), Sue Kapp Durrant (Bret). Another son was stillborn.
Many will remember their first business establishment in Springville, called Kapp's Café, located behind the old Friel's Furniture store (presently Vaud's) where Geneva's excellent baking and cooking talents, learned from the farm days in her youth, were enjoyed not only by the locals but especially by her neighbors, close friends and many who were in need.
Eventually, Gen and Bill moved their business to an expanded location and renamed it Melody Inn. Her homemade chicken noodle soup and cinnamon rolls were so legendary many came from long distances to enjoy these delectable treats.
Geneva humbly served in many church callings and had a deep and abiding testimony of the gospel. She was a sweet, loving, devoted mother and wife. She was also involved in many civic and community groups.
Geneva's life will be celebrated with a memorial service on Saturday, January 14, at 11:00 am in the Wheeler Mortuary chapel, 211 East 200 South in Springville. Family and friends may call a half hour before the service. Interment will be beside her husband at Evergreen Cemetery in Springville.
