OBITUARY JERRY W. CHILD

OGDEN - Jerry W. Child, 78, died Thursday, December 16, 2004. He was born April 1, 1926 in Riverdale, Utah, the son of Harrison B. and Ivy (Dolly) Ballantyne Child. After his graduation from Weber High School, he joined the US Navy Air Corp. On June 2, 1948, he married Lou Ann Toller in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was an active member of the LDS church and held numerous positions through the years, most recently, secretary of the High Priest Quorum. He took special joy in doing temple work with his wife.

Jerry graduated from BYU and did post graduate work in mathematics at the U of U and USU. He taught at Ogden High School for 37 years and also taught courses at Weber State College. He was the president of the Ogden Education Association and the Utah Council for the Improvement of Education. He was also a building contractor for 30 years, building many lovely homes. He enjoyed creating beautiful furniture, stained glass, and custom frames for his family and friends.

He enjoyed golfing, especially with his Monday group. He and his wife traveled extensively through out the world. They spent their winters in St. George for the last 12 years.

Jerry will be greatly missed by his wife Lou Ann; children Sherrie Branz of Riverdale, Kathi Child of Newberg, Oregon, Diane Child of Moab, Utah, and a grandson Mike Martinez of Riverdale. He is also survived by one sister, Geneva Kapp, and in-laws: Robert Toller, Ken Toller, Tim and Jill Toller, Dan and Sue Toller and Dave and Ruth Toller.

Jerry is preceded in death by his daughter Connie, his parents, two brothers and five sisters.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 20 at 2:00 p.m. at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden. Friends and relatives may call at Leavitts on Sunday, December 19, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Internment at Leavitts Aultorest Memorial Park.

Should friends so desire, expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation in Jerry Childs memory to the Utah Perpetual Education Fund of the LDS Church, 50 East N. Temple, 8th Floor, Salt Lake City, Utah 84150-1501.
