Thought to be the Jacob, son of Martin Housel whose 1796 log cabin is mentioned in the book "Annuls of the Buffalo Valley". Birth listed as only New Jersey, and not Hunterdon County, New Jersey because his brother was born in Essex County, New Jersey.

NOTE: It is certain that Jacob had two wives named Mary.
--------------

Jacob and his first wife Mary had seven children (all mentioned in his WILL).
- The eldest is often referred to as "Captain" William Housel, though no rank of Captain was ever conferred on him for his surviving the attack on Quebec and the battles of Chippewa and Lundy's Lane in the War of 1812. We have found four children attributable to William and his wife Mary.
- Martin Housel, who married first Charlotte Brewster in 1820 Portage Co, Ohio. On November 1, 1827 in Akron, Summit, Ohio, he married Margaret E. Viers. Between his two wives, we have found record of 16 children.
- Jacob 'Wabash' Housel, first wife's name unknown. second wife Catherine Little. Eight children, six with Catherine.
- John Housel, first wife believed to be named Rachel Osmun, four children. Second wife married April 20, 1826 at Chillisquaque, Northumberland, PA, Margaret Giles, nine children.
- Mary Ann Housel, wife of David Everett Jones. She died in 1840 in Pennsylvania. David died in 1877 Summit Co, Ohio. Said to have had eleven children with Mary Ann.
