Shirley Canary Laskey Rose, 92, a wonderful woman of faith and family, passed away September 10, 2016 at the Fort Washington Estates Multi-Phase Assisted Living Facility, in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. She had been a resident there since 1999. Shirley was born on the Route 29 Canary Farm, in the Town of Mayfield, July 29, 1924 the oldest daughter of Clayton and Estella Miller Canary. She was the third of eight children. She attended Elementary School at the former Frank District School House on Progress Road, graduating from Broadalbin Central School in 1942. She was active in Fulton County 4H and Youth Activities of Sacandaga Bible Conference and Broadalbin Baptist Church as a young girl. Highlights of her youth included playing Piano live on WGY Radio and traveling, during summers, with her college vocal group and their professor, as their pianist. She graduated from Providence Bible College in Providence, Rhode Island with a Degree in Music and Bible. She married Willis Laskey in 1945, who was Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Gloversville for a period of time. The family moved to Wheaton, Illinois in the early 1950's, where she raised their two children, David and Debbie. She worked in various positions while raising her family, eventually retiring as the Executive Administrative Assistant for a major Christian Publishing Company. In 1977 she married Stanley Rose Jr. and moved back East to Schenectady. While living in Schenectady they were active members of the Lisha's Kill Reformed Church, in Niskayuna. Shirley and Stanley enjoyed summers at "The Rose Cottage" on the grounds of Sacandaga Bible Conference and wintered in Vero Beach, Florida for many years. In 1999, they moved permanently to Fort Washington Estates in Pennsylvania, first having an apartment there and eventually residing in the Medical Wing. Stanley passed away in 2011. In her last years, Shirley organized and led a Choral Group at the Fort Washington Estates Facility, continuing to use her gift and bringing music back into the lives of many of the residents there.

While in good health, Shirley and Stanley traveled extensively around the world to various points of interest. Throughout Shirley's life she remained committed to family and was the driving force behind an Annual Canary Family Reunion each summer.
