Esther Vickers holds her daughter Lou Ann (right) and son Jimmy in 1957. Her husband, Arthur Vickers, was a career Navy man, and this photo is the one Dad would take with him on the ship when he was at sea, Lou Ann said. Jimmy would die in a car crash at age 18.

Esther poses with daughter Lou Ann on Sept. 7, 2002, at the wedding of Lou Ann's daughter, Kristianna, in Alabama. A weakened Esther attended her granddaughter's wedding despite the lung cancer that would end her life two weeks later.

Top: Esther Gavin (left) traveled from Iceland to Portland in 1946 to join her new husband, Emerson (Larry) Gavin (right). The couple had two children Raymond & Donita then divorced because Larry Gavin frequently assaulted his wife.

Bottom: 1947 photograph of Esther Gavin holding her infant son Raymond Leslie Gavin outside her Portland home - (subsequently adopted and his name was changed to Robert Benson Allen)

Esther's two children Raymond and Donita once they had been adopted by Benson and Jeanne Allen of Portland, Oregon. Raymond became Robert Benson Allen and Donita became Debra Jeanne Allen.
