HAMPTON - On Dec. 27, heaven opened its arms and the Lord called home a precious mother and grandmother. Edith Aaron was born in Lamar, S.C., to the late George Alford Sr. and the late Ophelia Alford.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, the Rev. Charles L. Aaron; and two sons, Charles L. Aaron Jr., and Samuel Aaron.

Her love for her children and grandchildren was undeniable. She opened her home to children in foster care for 25 years and received numerous awards. She had a special love for gardening, cooking, and the church she co-founded with her husband; The First Church of God in Newport News, Va. She worked for years in the Newport News school system and also was a licensed cosmetologist. She was known for her quick wit and sense of humor which was a quality that her family and friends embraced.

To cherish her memories, she leaves her children, Roxanne Aaron (Rufus Selph), Jonathan Aaron (Stephanie), the Rev. Leon Aaron (Myrella), Chiquita Aaron, Charlene Aaron King (Andre); two honorary sons, Larry Reynolds and Glen Frazier; an honorary daughter, Ernestine Reynolds; 20 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her living siblings, Ernestine Nichols, Jearldine Doctor, Virginia McKinnie, Thomasina Alford, George Alford, Julius Alford (Abby); and a host of nieces and nephews, and an extended church family.
