The Reverend Charles Lee Aaron Sr., Pastor, Founder and Builder of the First Church of God in Newport News, Virginia was called home to be with the Lord early Thursday morning on April 3, 2008.

Reverend Aaron was born on August 4, 1931 in Darlington County, S.C., to the late Johnnie Aaron and Roxie Howard Aaron.

At the age of 18 he moved to Virginia and started a family. He worked as an Electrician at the Newport News Shipyard, retiring after 38 years in 1990. In December 1962 he received his license as a barber and worked this profession part time for many years.

He attended Norfolk State University and received a certificate in Theology. After moving to Virginia at a very young age, he joined the Church of God in Newport News which later became the Joynes Road Church of God where he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior.

At the Church of God he served in many leadership roles from Chair of the Usher Board to Trustee. He also served faithfully for many years as treasurer for the State association of the Church of God. His ministry led many souls to Christ. He served his community with all his heart and never considered anyone a stranger.

He started his ministry at his home nearly 40 years ago, and then moved to a store front on 45th street and Madison Ave. Later he was led by the Lord to the corner of 20th and Oak Ave., where he founded Community Church of God and later changed the name to First Church of God. He was a compassionate and humble leader of God.

Rev. Aaron was preceded in death by his son Charles Lee Aaron Jr.
