Aaron Burdick Sr., 99 Of the town of Florida
Aaron Adelbert Burdick Sr., 99, of 30 Phelps Road in the town of Florida, died Sunday, June 24, 2001, at Williamstown Commons, Williamstown, where he had been a patient for the past three-and-a-half years.
Born in the town of Florida on Feb. 25, 1902, he was the son of Jerome and Eloeze (Sweet) Burdick. He was a lifelong resident of the town and attended Florida schools.
He was last employed for two years as a security guard at the Yankee Atomic Power Plant in Rowe, before retiring several years ago. Earlier, he was employed for many years in the Town of Florida Highway Department. Earlier still, he was employed for several years at the former Windsor Print Works, North Adams.
He was a former Florida selectman and also served as town constable several years ago.
He was the oldest living member and life deacon of the Florida Baptist Church. He enjoyed square dancing and square dance calling and was well-known for his playing of the harmonica.
He leaves his wife, the former Dorothy M. Briggs; a daughter, seven grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A son, Aaron A. Burdick Jr., died several years ago. Five brothers, Howard Burdick, Steven Burdick, Lawrence Burdick, Archie Burdick and Harold Burdick, and three sisters, Pearl Briggs, Tressie Poirot and Alta Yerdon, are deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Aaron Burdick will be held Wednesday, June 27, 11 a.m., in the Florida Baptist Church. The Rev. Irving Mullett, pastor, will officiating. Burial will follow in Florida Church Cemetery.
Calling hours at the Augé- San Soucie- Simmons Funeral Home, North Adams, will be today, June 26, 5-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Florida Baptist Church, through the funeral home, 46 North Church St., North Adams, Mass. 01247.
