A native of Wilmington, N.C., William had retired as a communications supervisor with E.I. Du Pont Co. at the Savannah River Plant.
He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and was a prisoner of war in Germany. He was awarded the Purple Heart and was a member of the Purple Heart Association.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 205, Mendle River Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans and past commander of the Savannah River Power Squadron.
William was survived by his wife Anne, a daughter and a sister.
