Blanche Lewis Shackelford's mother Jennie Spring (Edwards) Shackelford died 01 Nov 1879 in the Isle of Wight, Liberty Co., GA after Blanche's birth. Both of their bodies were buried "beneath a lovely old oak tree in a lovely old cemetery" as Blanche's sister, Ruth (Shackelford) Hartsfield, remembered from her childhood.
When I was searching for gravestones for infant Blanche and her mother Jennie, I did not find any markers for either one of them. I was told by the owner of the property where Old Dorchester Cem. is located that a farmer had removed gravestones from that cemetery to use as pig troughs - what a desecration!!!
