She was born July 1, 1935 in Hazen, NV to Donaciano and Jaquina Magana Leyva. She married Jesus A. Cortez on October 26, 1950 in Lovelock, NV; he preceded her in death on February 4, *Daily.
Elenor grew up in Wadsworth, NV, lived there until she met her husband, Jesus A. Cortez. She loved with him as his positions at the railroad moved him to numerous places in NV. They moved to Ogden with their children in 1958, where she has resided until her death.
Eleanor was a member, and faithfully attended, St. James Catholic Church. One of her hobbies was collecting various types of pigs. She knew who gave her each one and its history. She enjoyed cooking for her family and enjoyed caring for the beautiful plants and flowers in her home and yard. Eleanor was extremely proud of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter, Julio Cortez, Joe (Tawnie) Cortez, Jessie (Tony) Zampedri and six grandchildren, Daniel Cortez, Juan Cortez, Jeanette Cortez, Shalisa Zampedri, Cortney (Scott) Waterbury and Ryan Zampedri. Also surviving are four brothers and four sisters; Jessie Cortez, Vickie Ratti, Carmen Moreno, Daniel Leyva, Fidel Leyva, Ramona Garcia, Felix Leyva and Gilbert Leyva.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Johnny and Vinny.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 19, 2004 at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 495 N. Harrison Blvd., under the direction of Myers Mortuary of Ogden.
Interment, Myers Evergreen Memorial Park.
