Heinrich Tölle was born on a small farm in the village of Kleinenmarpe, Principality of Lippe, Germany, on May 31, 1836. His occupation was apparently that of bricklayer (Ziegler). He emigrated to America in 1869, where he joined his younger brother Hermann who had emigrated several years earlier. Two brothers, Friedrich and August, remained in Germany, and we know much about Heinrich's life from letters he and Hermann wrote back to them.

On September 10, 1869 Heinrich was married to Henriette Rügge by Pastor E. A. Elfeld at Emanuels Presbyterian Church in Gasconade county. She was born on December 23, 1847 and was evidently from Bentorf, a village in Lippe, Germany, and had emigrated with her parents in 1868.

In October 1869 they purchased a 154 acre farm in Gasconade county. It was located about 0.5 miles northwest of the Bourbois Post Office at the site of what is now the northeast corner of the village of Rosebud. Their first child, Louise Caroline, was born December 21, 1871 and was baptized at the Emanuels Presbyterian Church.

On June 28, 1872, Heinrich Tölle sold his farm to pay his debts and moved with his wife and daughter to St. Louis. He spent several difficult years there - working in a slaughterhouse in winter and in a brick-yard in summer. Heinrich and Henriette contracted small-pox, and daughter Louise died of it.

In 1878 they returned to Gasconade County where Heinrich operated a farm belonging to his brother-in-law, August Rügge, located on Second Creek 0.75 miles east of the village of Bay. Son Fred (Fritz) was born November 15, 1879, and daughter Wilhelmina (Minnie) was born November 7, 1882.

Heinrich, aged 50 years 5 months, died of consumption on November 1, 1886. He was buried at Bethel Presbyterian Church, Bay, Missouri, on November 3, 1886. After his death Henriette was remarried to Friedrich Klossner in 1890.
