Victor "Don" Adams, 79, of Martinsville, passed from this life on Sunday, January 1, 2012 at 6:35 a.m. surrounded by the love of his family.

Don, as many knew him, was born in Zachariah, Kentucky on April 27, 1932 to the late Ernest V. and Amelia I. (Lykins) Adams.

He served his country honorably during the Korean War as a corporal in the US Army from July 9, 1953 – May 28, 1955.

On July 12, 1957 he married Shirley (King) Adams; she survives in Martinsville. Don & Shirley spent their first years of marriage in Indianapolis, before moving to Spencer, Indiana and then Martinsville in 2005.

Don worked at Carrier Corporation in Indianapolis for 26 years as an assembler, retiring in 1993. He was an avid gardener and a proud grandpa. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family, especially his four grandsons.

He leaves behind a host of loving family including his wife of 54 years, Shirley Adams; son, Craig (wife, Kellie) Adams of Martinsville; daughter, Cindy (husband, Jeff) Cooper of Columbus; brothers, Wendell Adams of Greenwood and Ray Adams of Rogers, KY; sister, Betty Smith of Berea, KY; and four grandsons, Zachery & Spenser Adams and Nathan & Derek Cooper.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Arvella Creech.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, January 4th from 5-7:00 p.m. at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville. A service celebrating Don's life will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be on Thursday, January 5th at 2:00 p.m. in Adams Cemetery in Zachariah, Kentucky.
