Mrs. Mary A.Sansom
Mrs. Mary Agnes Sansom, the venerable mother of Messrs. S.S., R.A. and Copper Sansom and of the late Mrs. Mary Cooper, died at the home of her son-in-law, Mr. J.E. Cooper, last Thursday afternoon, after a protracted illness, due chiefly to the infirmities incident to old age. The funeral was held from her late home at 4 p.m. Friday and was largely attended. Rev. M.C. Hutton conducted the services and read from the 15th chapter of 1st Corinthians, stating it was the Scripture lesson selected by Mrs. Sansom to be read at her funeral, and basing his remarks thereon. He read a brief biographical sketch of the deceased and paid high tribute to her Christian character and to her virtues as wife and mother. Preceding the sermon the choir sang "Asleep in Jesus" and at its close "Jesus Lover of my Soul." At the grave where the services were concluded, "Abide with Me" was sung.
Mary Agnes Cooper was born in Maury county, Tenn., July 19, 1829, and was married to Richard Sansom July 29, 1847. At an early age she united with the Zion Presbyterian church near Columbia, Tenn. In the fall of 1850 she removed with her husband to Williamson county, Texas, where she continously resided to the day of her death. She was a charter member of the Georgetown Presbyterian church, which was organized at her home near Round Rock in 1854. Two years later she removed to Georgetown, the church organization having also moved here about the same time.
After a userful and self-sarcificing life she passed into rest at 6 o'clock on Thursday afternoon, March 12, 1908, aged 78 years, 7 months and 22 days. She left surviving her three sons, S.S. and Copper Sansom of Georgetown, and R.H. Sansom of Knoxville, Tenn; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Two aged brothers, Judge Wm. Cooper of New York City and Judge Ed Copper of Shelbyville, Tenn, are yet living.
Hers was a long and useful life, devoted to her God, her home and her family and friends. She had many sorrows and was more than willing to leave this world and be with her loved ones on "the other shore." Her husband, Col. Richard Sansom, died in June 1890, her youngest son, M.D. Sansom, in June 1901, and her only daughter, Mrs. J.E. Cooper, in November 1907. A singular coincidence was that all three died on Saturday.
