Blanche Ruby Emery Stenson, formerly of Holyoke, was born December 11, 1902 at Bellaire, KS to Seth W. and Edith Pruitt Emery. She died March 30, 1996 in Denver at the age of 93.
Blanche received her education in Smith County, Kansas schools. As a young girl, she was baptized in the Crystal Plains Union Church. She transferred her membership to First United Methodist Church in Holyoke.
On December 22, 1924, Blanche was united in marriage to Glen Elmer Stenson of Yuma. Six children were born to this marriage: Glen E., Jr., Wilbur L., Frank F., Edith A., James R. and Jeanette S.
Blanche gave many years of service to the Holyoke and Amherst communities. She was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and became a 50 year member of that organization in 1995. Blanche was also Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star and past president of Royal Neighbors of America. She had been a member of many organizations including Jolly Dozen Home Extension Club, Navy Mothers of America and Martha Unit of WSCS of United Methodist Church. Blanche served as a cub scout and girl scout leader and worked with Rainbow Girls and the American Red Cross.
In 1931-32, she ran a small cafe in the old Amherst Bank building. After raising her six children, she managed Holyoke Furniture store for a number of years. She was a military wife and mother during World War II, while husband Glen served in the Seabees and sons Glen J., Wilbur, Frank and James also served.
Preceding her in death were her husband of 63 years, Glen; her parents; son Frank, and brothers Frank and Homer.
Survivors include sons Glen J. and wife Margaret of Denver, Wilbur and wife Ronnie of Nashville, TN, and James and wife Joyce of Fort Collins; daughters Edith and husband Walt Harris of Crete, NE and Jeanette and husband Major General [Ret.] Kenneth Hagemann of Omaha, NE; daughter-in-law Yolanda Stenson of Longmont; 24 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; brother Elmer Emery and wife of Redmond, OR and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services were scheduled for Wednesday, April 3, 1996 at First United Methodist Church of Holyoke with Rev. Jack Pedotto offciating. Interment was to follow at Holyoke Memorial Park.
