Sept. 23, 1912 - Jan. 31, 2009Elmer "Bill" Emery, 96, passed away on January 31, 2009 in Anacortes, Washington Care Center. He had relocated to Anacortes in 2005 to be near his children.Bill was born in Bellaire, Kansas on September 23, 1912.In WWII he served in the Navy Construction Battalion (SEABEES) as a Heavy Equipment Operator, before returning and settling in the Central Oregon area (Bend/Redmond).He married Hope Chandler of Holyoke, Colorado in 1946 and, following her death in 1994, he married Mary Monroe in 1995. Mary preceded him in death in 2006.Bill worked in the logging industry for several years, before becoming head of maintenance at Central Oregon District Hospital where he worked until his retirement in 1977.After retirement Bill started his own small appliance repair business. He was known in the area for his ability to fix anything.Bill enjoyed traveling and visiting family all over the USA. He had an incredible ability to recall memories in great detail from his youth, and amazed all that knew him with his stories from past decades.He was a long-time member of the Redmond Christian Church where he served as a Deacon and Elder. He never complained and was steadfast. He was as good a person as a human can be. He will be greatly missed.He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Gus Gosanko, of Anacortes, Washington, son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Ann Emery, of Kenmore, Washington, and three grandchildren, Amelia Birks, Susanna Jones and Peter Emery. He is also survived by four step-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild.Interment was at Deschutes Memorial Gardens.
