Eula Estelle Mays was the daughter of John Mays and Martha Jane Reynolds. Eula first married Claude Shanks (1907-1982) and second Ernest Bailey (1915-1985). Claude and Eula had a daughter Mary Carol Shanks Marcum (1940-2013). Eula, Claude and Mary Carol are buried in the Mays-Shanks Cemetery.

Mary Carol has three brothers: Gene Shanks, Adrian Shanks and Edmond Shanks and three children.

Eula's second husband was Ernest Bailey and they were married briefly. His first wife was Ethel Mae Bailey (1918-2009) and they had a son, Gene Edward (1947-2011). Ernest is listed in the Roach Cemetery, Lee County and Bailey Cemetery, Lee County, KY. Ethel and her son, Gene, are buried in Isaacs Family Cemetery, Owsley County.
