Mary Ann Belsker was born 21 Jan 1861 in California to George and Mary Ann (Sefer) Belsker.

The story passed down through the family is that Mary Ann's mother was widowed during the Civil War when she married George Belsker and moved to California. After the birth of a baby boy, Mary's "dead husband" turned up in California after tracing the family. George had this marriage dissolved and took his daughter Mary Ann back to the Kansas Territory. The baby boy, being too young to travel, was left with his mother. No other information has been found about the baby boy.

George remarried to Clara (last name unknown) and they had four daughters. Mary Ann helped raise her sisters after the death of her step-mother Clara, and also kept house for her father. The Catholic church and neighbors considered Mary Ann illegitimate and she had a difficult life.

Mary Ann was united in marriage to Henry Bruner (1863-1891). The story passed down through the family is that Henry Bruner was a riverboat captain. Henry died from pneumonia or typhoid fever and is buried in the Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas area. His father was Amish from the Pennsylvania area and Henry was disowned by his family and came West.

Mary and George were the parents of two children:

1. George Henry born 1886 married Regina Bader
2. Infant daughter who died at birth, dates unknown

Mary remarried to Joseph "Joe" H. Ernst (parents unknown) in 1892. Joe was a widower with three children.

Mary and Joe were the parents of one child:

1. Edward "Ed" Gerhardt born 1892 married Marie "Mary" (Honey) Therese Parr

Joe passed away 17 Jun 1907 in Kansas City, Wyandotte County, Kansas at the age of 61 years. He was laid to rest in Mount Saint Marys Cemetery in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri.

Mary passed away 02 Apr 1937 and is buried in the Belsker family plot in the Saint John's Cemetery in Kansas City, Wyandotte County, Kansas.
