Col. James Davis died at the garrison where he was born, 8 Sep 1749. His wife, Elizabeth Chesley, was born 1669 and died before 1748. Both were members of the Church at Oyster River from which they withdrew in 1723 to join the Church of Dover. (history of Canterbury, NH by J.O. Lyford)
James was a survivor of the massacre at Oyster River Plantation, Durham, Strafford County, New Hampshire in 1694 at age 31
