Delia Ortiz Sanchez, age 84 of San Antonio, went to be with the Lord on December 26, 2011. She was born September 23, 1927 in Corpus Christi, the daughter of Alberto Ortiz and Manuela Crisantes who preceded her in death.

She was married June 1944 to Pablo Lopez Sanchez. Delia's personal and professional life reflected excellence and accomplishment. Known as the voice of St. Mary's University for 31 years as Operator and Manager of the Communication Center, she greeted thousands of callers to the University from 1967 until retiring in 1998.

During her time at St. Mary's she raised four children, received her Bachelor of Business degree in 1980 and continued her education to receive a Master's in Adult Education in 1992 from Texas A & M University at Kingsville. She was a member of St. Mathew's Catholic Church, a member of the American Society for Business Management, St. Mary's University Managements Committee, the Mexican-American Business and Professional Women's Association, the Federal Business and Professional Women's Club, Inc., the San Antonio Literary Providers, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Prime Crusader's Parliamentary Unit, and a volunteer for Hospice.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Pablo Lopez Sanchez of San Antonio, 4 children: Imelda (Richard) Idar, PhD of San Antonio, Sylvia Peterson, RPH of Houston, Cynthia (Michael) Plueger of San Antonio, Paul (Melinda) Sanchez, CPA of San Antonio, 4 grandchildren: Cris Bregman, Richard John Idar, Michael Francis Plueger, Jr., and Monica Chandler. Great grandchildren: Ricky Idar, Micaela Plueger, Michael Francis Plueger, III (Jr. Bug), Noah Bregman, Chaz Bregman, Beau Bregman, Georgia Chandler, and Lincoln Chandler. She was preceded in death by her brother, Alberto Ortiz, Jr., her sister, Beatrice Angelica Gonzalez and grandson, Mark C. Peterson, Jr.

A special thank you is extended to the A-MED Hospice staff; Karen Roper, Bonnie Tucker, Vanessa Bost, and Rose Davison and to her faithful caregiver, Antonia Rivera.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 1, 2012 beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Porter Loring on McCullough.
