Utah Death CertificateJohn Mack McCamant: Four days after being struck by an auto in front of 1882 Washington Blvd., John M. McCamant succumbed from multiple injuries. He suffered fractures and head injuries when hit by a car as he tried crossing the street. Mr. McCamant was hurled 70 feet after the car, driven by Fred Jackson Wilcock, 19, of 1358 Washington, was unable to stop or swerve around him. Well known in Ogden, Mr. McCamant operated Mack's Sporting Goods Store at 1616 Washington Blvd. for many years. He was the first highway fatality in Ogden and Weber County this year.
Mr. McCamant was born March 1, 1879 in Sherman, TX, a son of John and Ruby McCamant. He had lived in Ogden the past 30 years. He had operated a barber shop. He served as deputy game warden and had been active in the Weber Wildlife Federation. He was known for his hand-made trout flies and
fishing rods. He was a member and past chancellor of the Knights of Pythias. He was also a member of the Barber Union.
In May 1908, he married Maude Carver Shurtliff in Salt Lake City. Surviving are his widow, one son Jay Mack McCamant of Reno,NV; two grandchildren, one brother Edwin H. McCamant of Los Angeles, CA.
He was preceded in death by his brother Curtis McCamant in 1918.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Lindquist and Sons Colonial Chapel, conducted by the officers of Knights of Pythias. Friends may call at the mortuary Friday from 7 - 9 p.m. and Saturday prior to services. Burial to follow at Ogden City Cemetery.
