BOONSBORO - Gerald Leon "Joe" Baker, 61, of 8324 Barnes Road, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, at his home.

Born Nov. 11, 1942, in Boonsboro, he was the son of the late Paul Leon and Geraldine Lauretta Bond Baker.

He was a 1960 graduate of Boonsboro High School.

He was employed at Roxbury Correctional Institution near Hagerstown for 22 years.

He was a member of Benevola United Methodist Church near Boonsboro, where he sang in the senior choir.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Terrace J. "Terri" Kendle Baker; three daughters, Laura J. Mills, Patti A. Powers and Cathy J. Miller, all of Hagerstown; one sister, Nancy L. Ebersole of Boonsboro; one brother, Dennis P. Baker of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one aunt; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Gale E. Baker.

Services will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Benevola United Methodist Church. The Rev. Helen S. Smith will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery, with honors provided by the Roxbury Correctional Institution Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, Boonsboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Benevola United Methodist Church, 19925 Benevola Church Road, Boonsboro, MD 21713; or American Cancer Society, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
