An obituary published in the Shelbyville Democrat on December 12, 1929 for Christian Ballet states that he had died in St. Vincent Hospital in Taylorville from injuries sustained when he was struck by a car in Edinburg. Mr. Ballet was well known in Shelbyville where he grew to manhood. Bereft of his parents at an early age he was taken into the home of Thomas Fox, the station agent for the Big Four at Shelbyville. For some time he was employed as clerk and later as telegraph operator at the Big Four station. Later he entered the Thornton bank as bookkeeper and was afterwards made cashier. He remained with the bank as a trusted and efficient employee until the failure of that institution in 1893. He then went to St. Louis and was employed by the Venice Transportation Company. On leaving that city he went to Cripple Creek, Colo., where he was employed by another transporting company. Of late he had made his home with his brothers at St. Louis and Edinburg. Mr. Ballet was born in Hamilton, Ohio and was 74 years old. In 1886 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Trower, eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Trower of Shelbyville. Mrs. Ballet passed away February 1, 1920. Mr. Ballet was survived by two brothers, Jacob Ballet of Edinburg, P. E. Ballet of St. Louis and two half-brothers, Henry Gehm, manager of the Venice Transportation Company, St. Louis and Harry Gehm of Cripple Creek, Colo. The funeral services were held from the Methodist Church in Edinburg. Cremation took place in St. Louis after which his ashes were to be buried at Glenwood Cemetery.
