The daughter of CHARLES VERNE & FLORENCE (ZINK) PHILP, she attended school & graduated high school at Grover, Colorado where the family lived 10 miles west. After attending Colorado Teachers College in Greeley, Colorado, she moved to Fort Collins, Colorado. She married James Thomas Ferris on July 21, 1956. To their union, three children were born: John Thomas, Najla Zohia, and Jamila "Jami" Lisa Ferris. They were divorced and she was remarried three more times.

She was a past-president of Colorado Cowbelles Assoc., an active member of the Colorado Republican Pary, and a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include her three children and four grandchildren.

The tombstone pictured is a memorial to Sylvia in the Home of Peace Cemetery in Grover, Colorado. Her ashes are NOT interred here.
