Margaret Louisa Stevenson was the eighth of twelve known children of Robert Montgomery Young Stevenson Sr. (1772-1835) and Maria Rebecca Steele Stevenson (1775-1839), who married cc1795 in presumably North Carolina. The family shortly after moved to Christian County, Kentucky and then to present day Washington County, Missouri in c1809.

Margaret married James McDaniel (1810-1852, who died in Texas) in c1837 in presumably Missouri. In c1845 the family moved to Lamar County, Texas. After the father James died, the family moved on to Tulare County, California by wagon train in 1859. It is not known where James is buried, but presumably in Lamar County, Texas.

Margaret and James were the parents of eight known children, namely:

1. Ann Mariah McDaniel (1838-1839)
2. Emily Rebecca McDaniel (1839-1842)
3. Martha Ann McDaniel Graham Anderson (1841-1909)
4. Margaret Caroline McDaniel (1842-p1859)
5. Melissa Jane McDaniel Campbell (1844-a1870)
6. Amanda Missouri McDaniel (1846-1856)
7. Robert Andrew McDaniel (1850-1925)
8. Sarah Emily McDaniel (1852-1853)
