OBIE F. APPLEGATE
Obie Franklin Applegate, 71, of 810 Harvard st, died Wednesday at 11:50 p.m. at Mercy Hospital with death attributed to pneumonia. Mr. Applegate had been in ill health seven years. He was admitted to the hospital Tuesday night.
He was born May 31, 1879, in Lewis County, Ky., a son of Albert and Louise Blanton Applegate. Mr Applegate lived most of his life in Portsmouth.
A retired shoeworker, his last employment was with the Williams Manufacturing Company. Mr. Applegate was a member of Holy Redeemer Church and the Holy Name Society there.
He was first married to Mary Fox in 1905. She preceded him in death in 1916, after which he married Anna Elizabeth Born on Nov. 26, 1919. His second wife survives.
Also surviving are two children by the first marriage: Ralph Applegate of Athens and Mrs. Helen Crellin of Cincinnati, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Applegate was the oldest and last member of his family.
Funeral services are set for Saturday at Holy Redeemer Church at 9 a.m. with Msgr Joseph R. Casey officiating. Burial is to be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
The body is to remain at Melcher Funeral Home. The Holy Name Society is to meet at the funeral home Friday at 8 p.m. to recite the rosary.
