Melvin Grandy Hart (1957 - 2011)

SMITHFIELD - Melvin Hart Grandy, 54, passed away Dec. 20, 2011, at the Mountain View Nursing Home in Ogden, Utah, after a lingering illness. He was born Feb. 6, 1957, in Logan, Utah, the son of Wallace Henry and Rhea Hart Grandy. He was the youngest of six children and was adored and spoiled by the whole family, especially his oldest sister, Luane. It was questionable as to whether he would ever learn to walk because Luane carried him around so much.
Melvin was raised in Smithfield, Utah, and attended Sky View High School. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed Scouting, camping and earning merit badges and became a Life Scout and a Senior Patrol Leader. He also enjoyed creating inventions, practicing karate, playing the trumpet and hunting ducks with his dad and faithful dog, Rusty.
As a teenager, cars, motorcycles and dirt bikes became his passion. There wasn't a hill he couldn't conquer on his Yamaha 500cc, including the renowned Widowmaker, which was a dream come true. He also served in the U.S. Army from 1974-75. He then attended Utah Trade Tech in Salt Lake City where he studied auto mechanics.
Melvin is survived by his mother, Rhea Hart Grandy of North Logan, Utah; brother, Boyd (Candy) Grandy; sisters, Marcile (Loran) Hirschi of Logan, Utah, Gayla (Daryl) Reese of Hyde Park, Utah, and Teresa Minnick; brother-in-law, Alma (Roxene) Burton of Afton, Wyo.; and by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Wallace Henry Grandy (Nov. 4, 1989); and by his sister, Luane (Alma) Burton (Jan. 8, 1985).
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 E. 400 North, Logan, with a viewing one hour prior to services. A viewing will also be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Nelson Funeral Home. Interment will take place at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Paris, Idaho, Cemetery.
Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com.
We love you, Melvin, and we will hold you in our hearts until we meet again! Thank you for being part of our forever family!
